Why do we follow the 4 regulative principle?

A9. The following are the 4 regulative principles:

  1. No meat eating, fish or eggs.
  2. No intoxication.
  3. No gambling.
  4. No illicit sex.

We need to follow these regulative principles because to understand the subtle things, we need to control our senses.

Unless and until our sense are undr the control of our intelligence, the spiritual things cannot be understood clearly as they are.

The urges of the mind, body and the senses are very important to be controlled.

When the urges of the tongue are controlled, all the other senses get controlled automatically.

Intoxication creates a cloud of illusion over the mind and stimulates the mind and the senses.

Gambling gives a sense of prestige and involves the mind in seeking sense gratification.

The most important is to control the urge of the genitals. Sex is meant only for producing krsna conscious children and not for sense gratification.

Unlimited sense gratification leads to recognition with the body and not the actual self.

Why do we chant Hare Krishna?

A10.  Hare Krishna mahamantra is the recognized mantra for this age , the age of kali.

In this age, men are not intelligent or pure enough to chant other mantras like the gayatri mantra for self realization.

Chaitanya mahaprabhu, an incarnation of krsna, specially came to tis earth and freely distributed the hare krsna mahamantra and prescribed it for the fallen souls.

He said, int his age the hare krsna mahamantra is the only means by which one can attain love for godhead and liberation from this material world.
